The Most Worthless Coin

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

Yesterday, a coworker borrowed some money from me to buy lunch and he paid me back today as promised. The problem is this: He repaid me with a half dollar/fifty cent piece. I realize the coin is worth 50 cents and can be used to buy goods and services, but in reality these coins are worthless because they can’t be used in any common device that exchanges currency for products.

When you receive a half-dollar, your immediate reaction is get rid of it as soon as possible. Your only hope is to pass it on to someone else, take it to your bank, or put it in a Coinstar machine. I can’t be sure, but I think almost everyone hates half-dollars/fifty cent pieces. Whatever you call them, receiving one is a horrible experience.
