Employers view wages as variable expenses. They do not hesitate to cut workers during tough times if it helps the bottom line. Employees can be eliminated and rehired at a later time as needed. There are no guarantees for future employment. The job you go to today may not be there tomorrow. Jobs are scarce and there is a gross oversupply of qualified applicants for the few open positions. Your occupational future is not in your control. Job security no longer exists.
